The Architecture of Curiosity in Modern Classrooms

When a TEDx, hosted at Doon International School's Riverside Campus in Dehradun, builds a lineup around "GenZ Redefining Tomorrow," the natural instinct is to fill the stage with young disruptors — founders in their twenties, coders, content creators. But some of the most powerful conversations about the future come from someone who has spent nearly four decades watching generations grow, question, and reinvent themselves in classrooms across India and the Gulf. That person is Kulbhushan Kain — educator, author, historian, and one of India's most seasoned school leadership figures — and he is exactly the kind of speaker who can give this stage the depth it needs. He also happens to be a genuinely local voice: Dehradun isn't just a stop on his career map, it's a place he studied in, writes about, and still calls home in his work today.

Kulbhushan Kain has spent over 30 years in educational administration, serving as Director, Founder Principal, or Principal of schools across Bhopal, Jagdishpur, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Dubai, and Mumbai. He holds a postgraduate degree in History from the University of Delhi and an MPhil in History, having studied at Hansraj College and St. Joseph's Academy, Dehradun — a historian's grounding that shapes how he talks about change and generational shifts.

He is also a published author of "slice of real life" stories, hosts a podcast on the history of Dehradun, and writes columns for the Garhwal Post on everything from old Dehradun neighborhoods to how playing fields teach children to learn.

His long-running blog adds a candid, first-person layer — reflective essays on ambition, mentorship, and identity that mirror the self-definition GenZ audiences are wrestling with today.

For a DIS Riverside audience specifically, none of this is borrowed authority: he studied in Dehradun and still writes about it weekly, making him part of the city's fabric rather than an outside expert parachuted in. As a Founder Principal several times over, he's had to repeatedly design for what the next generation needs rather than the last; his cross-cultural stints in Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Dubai, and Mumbai give him range on how ambition looks across regions; and colleagues describe him as a person of high integrity with a real gift for team-building and staying attuned to global change.

The best "redefining tomorrow" speakers don't lecture GenZ — they hand the mic back with better questions. Decades in classrooms, principal's offices, and now a blog and podcast mic have given Kain that rare vantage point: watching generations of students walk in as children and walk out as the adults now reshaping the world. That mix of institutional depth, genuine Dehradun roots, and warm, story-first communication makes him a compelling, credible fit for the stage.
