Shalya Maheshwari

Hello there!

I’m Shalya, a Class XI student from the City Campus who has a habit of getting interested in one thing and somehow ending up with five unrelated tabs open about it. I’m curious about almost everything, especially when it involves economics, law, or society. I like asking questions, figuring out why things work, and occasionally getting far too invested in finding the answer.

Outside school, I founded reDot, a non-profit focused on research, advocacy, and making conversations around menstrual health and gender less stigmatized. I lead a team of over 80 volunteers, with projects ranging from research on gender-based pricing and menstrual stigma to podcasts and debates with experts that encourage open conversations around reproductive health. We also conduct workshops in community centres, giving us a chance to take these conversations beyond our own circles.

Alongside reDot, I’ve worked on research papers, explored academic publishing, consulting, law, and brand partnerships. I also volunteer as a tutor. I find it difficult to have just one hobby, so I’m usually juggling a few. I enjoy learning languages, used to swim competitively, play guitar, participate in debates, and love travelling. I’m also into photography, digital art, design, and writing.

As a part of the Logistics Team for TEDx, I’m excited to work on the less glamorous but absolutely essential side of bringing an event together, from making sure things happen on time to solving the inevitable problems that appear five minutes before they need to. I joined because I love creating a space where people with completely different perspectives can come together and leave with something new to think about.

I’m an enthusiastic overthinker, for better or worse. When I’m not working on something, you’ll probably find me down a very specific internet rabbit hole, listening to podcasts, making unnecessarily complicated coffee, or starting another project I definitely don’t have time for.

I’m excited to be part of the TEDx team and help turn all the chaos behind the scenes into an event people remember.
